Cozy Camera Pouch Fabric and Notions

Fabric Recommendations

Main Fabric

You can use almost any fabric for the outside of the pouch (A). It will be quilted to a layer of foam for structure. This is a great project to use up scraps and other materials that you already have lying around!

If you choose fleece for the camera lining, avoid thick main fabrics (like denim or heavy canvas), unless your machine can handle bulky layers.

Lining Fabrics

Camera lining -  for the body of the pouch, where the camera sits:

Use a soft fabric to protect your camera, like fleece, brushed cotton, flannel, or quilting cotton. Avoid fleece if your machine struggles with bulky layers.

Pocket lining - for the zip pocket inside the flap:

The zip pocket is made of three pattern pieces:

  • The Inner pocket (1 piece) forms the “back” of the pocket, visible when you open the zipper.
  • The Outer pocket (2 pieces) attach to the zipper and are visible when you open the pouch.

For these pieces, you have lots of flexibility:

  • They can all use the same fabric or different fabrics.
  • They can match your main fabric, your camera lining,  or use a completely different light- to mid-weight lining fabric.
  • Do not use fleece for the pocket pieces as it makes the layers too bulky.
Binding

You can make your own bias tape using:

  • Lightweight, non-stretch fabric cut on the bias (e.g., quilting cotton)
  • Lightweight stretch fabric cut in the direction of the stretch (e.g., nylon with spandex).

Fabric Requirements

This project is very scrap friendly. Many of the pieces can be cut out of small rectangles - the exact sizes vary depending on the size of your drafted pouch. Please contact me if you would like more specific fabric requirements before purchasing.
